Spring Solitude Playlist

Summer Madness, Autumn Sadness, Cruel Winter and now – Spring Solitude; my 2017 Seasonal-playlists in chronological order.

The Spring Solitude playlist – at least for me – reflects a narrative of youthful restlessness, and paints the “coming-of-age” of someone stressed to their breaking point by the hands of alcohol-dependency, anxiousness, existential uncertainty, heartbreak, nostalgia, and bad decisions; something that I – more or less – personally went through in the past couple of seasons.

As for the series of playlists as a whole: I think most of the songs and the individual artists behind them carry a spirit of imperishable ambition, thoughtfulness, and self-awareness within themselves; that same spirit is reflected in the character of the playlists’ narrative too, and ultimately I think that’s what persuaded them to create a personal change for the better by the time the next season(s) came. This describes my year vaguely, but it’s open for your interpretation(s) too.

I think “Oh My Dis Side” was my anthem for this year just based on just personal-significance alone. Although truth be told; the Rodeo album as a whole was really the ethos of my year too: the “outlandish ambitions” on the album’s opener (Pornography), the month-long stretches of alcohol-fueled nights, the duality in Travis’ character, the fuckery, the withdrawals, and the self-reflections through the lenses of self-loathing and self-glorification all resonated deeply with me.
“Yet and still, the question arises to the mind: Will he make it? was it worth it? did he win? will he survive the rodeo?”; those series of questions perfectly closes the Rodeo album off, and it perfectly closes off my current cycle of seasons too.

If I were to curate a personal 2017 top-10 like I did last year though, It’d probably look a little bit like this:

  • Oh My Dis Side – Travis Scott
  • Sorry Bonita – Joey Badass
  • Japanese Denim – Daniel Caesar
  • Get Myself High – The Dynamics
  • Alluptoyou – Mndsgn
  • Who Has The Last Laugh Now – Bloodstone
  • Momma – Kendrick Lamar
  • Nights – Frank Ocean
  • Respiration  Black Star ft. Common
  • Dimes Awhlee

Shoutout to the people I met and got to know better this year; I liked almost everyone else better in 2016 though.
